The East Columbia Basin Irrigation District Board of Incumbents Renew Terms

Othello, WA.- The East Columbia Basin Irrigation District (ECBID) has announced that no additional Declaration of Candidacy Petitions for the open Board positions were filed and will therefore not hold an election.  The filing period for Director positions 2 and 4 opened on October 4, 2024 and closed on November 4, 2024. Per RCW 87.03.075, it is not necessary for a district to hold an election if only one qualified candidate has been nominated when the filing period expires.

The incumbents for open Director Divisions 2 and 4, Reid Baker and Duaine Anderson respectively, each declared intent to run by filing a Declaration of Candidacy Petition with the District. No additional Petitions were submitted. Per ECBID bylaws, the petition must be signed by at least 10 qualified voters. No other candidates filed a Declaration of Candidacy Petition.

Division 2, served by Reid Baker, includes the Grant County portion of the District bounded on the north by Wheeler Road, on the east and south by the Grant/Adams County line, and on the west by the East District Boundary. This three-year term begins in January 2025.

Duaine Anderson serves as Director for Division 4, covering Adams County bounded on the north by the Grant/Adams County line, on the south by the Franklin/Adams County line and on the west by the East District boundary. Anderson has also served as President of the Board of Directors. This term will be for three years beginning in January 2025.

The Board is expected to declare Baker and Anderson as Directors during the December Board meeting.

Located in central Washington State, the East Columbia Basin Irrigation District is the largest district in the state, with authorization to irrigate 472,000 acres. Currently, 169,000 acres are developed and managed by 4,500 landowners within the federal Columbia Basin Project. Additionally, the District is involved in the development of 87,000 acres associated with OGWRP. The District provides a reliable supply of water that irrigates the cropland that produces food shipped domestically and internationally.
